Volksbank International AG - your strong partner in Central and Eastern Europe

A forerunner

Back in the year 1991, Österreichische Volksbanken AG (VBAG) became one of the first banks to initiate an expansion drive in the promising Central and Eastern European growth markets, setting up a subsidiary bank in Slovakia.

Success going East

Today, Vienna-based Volksbank International AG (VBI), of which a majority shareholding is owned by VBAG, manages a successful and expanding Bank Network consisting of more than 450 sales outlets in 9 Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC): Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and, since January 2007, the Ukraine.  Since the end of 2004, both DZ BANK AG / WGZ BANK AG (Germany) and Banque Fédérale des Banques Populaires (France) have each held a 24.5% shareholding in VBI.

Additional service

The international network of VB AG is complemented by a branch office in Malta. Furthermore, customers can take advantage of the know-how provided by specialised VB AG companies in the fields of complex, long-term corporate financing, public sector financing, factoring, real estate, leasing and insurance transactions.
Our customers are also optimally serviced in Switzerland and Lichtenstein by subsidiary banks of Voralberger Volksbank.

Last developments

During 2007, Volksbank Group was further growing dynamically. The balance sheet total of Volksbank Group amounted to € 82.1 billion. Volksbank Group employed 11,800 people Europe-wide.

The banks of Volksbank Group (primary stage) are regional cooperative banks enjoying a more than 150 years’ tradition. They see themselves as local suppliers of financial services and have a dense branch offices network all over Austria. The legally independent banks of Volksbank Group are owned by half a million Austrians. Each Volksbank is a regionally strongly anchored universal bank which locally services its core target groups, i.e. small and medium-sized enterprises as well as private customers.
Volksbank AG (VBAG) is the central institution of the Austrian banks of Volksbank Group. In this function, VBAG assumes amongst others liquidity management, syndicated business transactions and issue of securities.

The “one-stop finance bank” is based on five segments – Corporate Finance, Public Finance, Retail Banking, Real Estate and Financial Markets.

During the last years, VBAG has been developing from a regional bank to the fourth largest bank in Austria and has become an international player as well. The commercial bank operates in Austria and abroad with its branch offices network in Central and Eastern European countries.
VBAG holds the majority share in Volksbank International, which is the competence centre of the Austrian Volksbank Group relating to banking activities in Central and Eastern Europe.

With its subsidiary Investkredit Bank AG, the Group is a strong partner in the segment of Real Estate and Corporate Finance. Kommunalkredit Austria AG leads the Group to the number 1 position in the segment of Public Finance in Austria.

Volksbank AG is an important player on the Austrian retail market and thus covers particularly the Vienna area. At the international level, retail business is successfully assumed by Volksbank International AG.

The French BFBP on the one hand and the German DZ BANK / WGZ BANK on the other, both CIBP members, hold a 24.5% stake each in Volksbank International, which has successfully expanded into the Central and Eastern European countries. The powerful network now comprises more than 600 points of sale in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Ukraine.
