The 23rd CIBP Congress was held on October 9 and 10, 1997, at the Teatro di Corte in Naples on the theme :

"Multi-channel approach in matters of distribution in the CIBP"

The Congress debates dealt with the optimization of distribution channels in the context of a decentralised banking organisation from the following angles:

• the contribution of a cooperative culture and the sharing of roles between central organisations and local banks
• the approach to small and medium-sized companies, the special customers of CIBP member organisations

As a conclusion, the Naples Charter was one of the achievements of the Congress and the following message was delivered :

The Naples Charter thus enlightens and guides our action in a constantly changing universe where profit is the main aim. It proposes a code of conduct based on transparency, social responsability and the place of the human being - whether shareholder, client or employee - at the heart of our concerns.
